Weekend tips for Hong Kong

Weekend tips for a short trip to the fascinating city of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is one of the most exciting cities in the East and is sure to grab any traveller’s attention for weeks, but if you only have a long weekend to spend in Hong Kong there are a few places that you need to make sure you see to sample some of the best that Hong Kong has to offer.

First place to visit is Victoria Peak, which is the best place to head to for a great vantage point from which you can look out over the grand city.  Located on the west side of the island, it is ideal for taking a moment to relax and there are plenty of souvenir shops and cheap food stalls to make it worth your while to spend a few hours exploring the area.  It’s best at night if you can fit in time, as the lights of the city are spectacular.

While in Hong Kong, you should also be sure to see a few of the temples as they are grand structures that are magnificent to view from a Western perspective.  If you can only fit in one make sure it is the Wong Tai Sin Temple as it is the most popular tourist attraction, and for good reason.

Finally, one cannot leave Hong Kong without visiting its own entertainment area, the aptly named Ocean Park.  Here you can find everything from roller coasters to a shark aquarium to other heart stopping rides.  Fit for kids and adults looking to relax and have a great time, it does not get much better than smelling the crisp island air of the city within its largest shore side theme park.

    Hi – Thanks!

One challenge is traveling to HK with kids. A great resource my friend there told me about is Little Steps Hong Kong – a new website for moms and dads. As a traveler to HK, there are tips on where to go with kids. http://www.littlestepshongkong.com.

We also like Travel and Leisure Asia – a very good resource. And of course, the LUXE guides!

    Hope that helps.
