Thomas Stuker gives publicity boost to the airmiles programme

One of the most common misconceptions surrounding air miles is that you have to be a very frequent flyer, and that you have to pay to join. This is a complete fallacy on both counts. Every flight adds up, and it is completely free to join, so why not get rewarded for something that you do anyway that will cost you nothing? You can even earn air miles every time you spend should you choose to use an air miles credit card for purchases.

Even domestic and weekend fights count towards your total, although you may not reach the level of the US businessman Thomas Stuker. Over a 29 year period, this travelling car salesman from Chicago took 6,000 flights which accumulated 10m airmiles. He has flown the equivalent of round the world 4 times and is now a world record holder. His story appeared in newspapers all over the world a week or so ago, and gave a big publicity boost to the airmiles programme. He did all his flying using just United Airlines, but it doesn’t matter if you use just 1 or 30 airlines, they all count and add up.

It isn’t very often these days that we get something for nothing, the main exception to this rule are reward cards. Although many supermarkets did away with them several years many retailers such as Sainsbury and Tesco kept theirs going. Did you also know, however, that there are rewards available for shopping on eBay? Or by going to a John Lewis store? These aren’t ordinary in store rewards either, they are air miles.

You must have been living under a rock for the last year or so not have heard of air miles, and millions of passengers around the world enjoy the benefits that they bring, such as free flights and accommodation. What is surprising however that there are still millions of Britons who fly at least once or twice a year who aren’t registered in the programme and thus reap none of the benefits.
