For all of you travellers currently in the UK, FHM men’s magazine has released a special edition featuring a free fitness supplement – the biannual ‘Bionic’ magazine. FHM is something of a media institution in the UK, so it may of interest to gentlemen travellers as a matter of UK cultural discovery. For those of you currently living in the UK, it is also possible to get £1 off FHM when you order the latest issue of the magazine.
The Bionic issue features fitness advice and tips from four major sporting stars well known in the UK including Lionel Messi, Toby Flood, Jessica Ennis and Michael Bisping. I am particularly interested though in what Jessica Ennis has to say regarding how to get that winning mentality that will keep you on target. Jessica won the Heptathlete European Championships in 2010 and becomes a sort of personal trainer with her fitness tips in the Bionic feature. She provides 9 simple steps on how to get a champion’s mentality and makes a solid point that ‘Pressure focuses you…it’s a good thing’. Obviously within certain limits though.
A while ago, I somehow managed to get myself into running a half marathon during my first year at University. I strongly believe it was the pressure of knowing I was going to compete on a specific date which gave me the focus and mentality to train hard in the run up. If anyone is passing by Sheffield in May, you might want to try and catch the Sheffield Half Marathon which takes places every year.
Zoe Salmon, a former TV presenter and Miss Northern Ireland of 1999, is also on the front cover of FHM Bionic sharing her fitness tips with readers. Find out more at http://www.fhm.com/nicole.
I think FHM is active in most countries, but it would be interesting to hear how it differs in the UK from everywhere else.
